Flowering from mid to late summer, the Rock Samphire grows mostly on rocks, cliffs and stone walls. It has thick, fleshy leaves and the pale greenish-white flowers have five petals. Also known as samphire, sea fennel or sea asparagus, the leaves are edible, and can be cooked by simmering in water for about 10 minutes.
