The hazel is a deciduous shrub which can be found in most hedgerows growing to a height of 15 to 20 feet. The leaves are soft, oval, toothed and hairy and alternate on the stem. The nuts should be familiar to all, and appear in late summer encased in a toothed husk and are green at first, drying to the familiar brown.
