The Guelder Rose is a very common, but not particularly well-known tree of the hedgerow. Its leaves are maple-like - bigger than a hawthorn, but smaller than a sycamore. The red berries look similar to redcurrants and are slightly poisonous when raw, but can be made into jellies.
