Torquay's main beach is Torre Abbey sands - a beach of reddish sand backed by a sea wall, a promenade and the dual carriageway of Torbay Road. There isn't much beach here - even at low tide so it's likely to get extremely busy during peak times. The sea is usually calm, and it's very popular for sea swimming. The western end is known as Corbyn's Head Beach and is a beach of coarse sand backed by beach huts. Access at this end is down steps. Dogs are not allowed on these beaches from 1st May until 30th September. Torquay railway station is about 400 yards away.
