The seaside resort of Dawlish has a narrow beach of reddish sand interspersed with groynes and backed by a sea wall and Dawlish railway station.. The stream of Dawlish Water flows through the town and crosses the beach. Dogs are not allowed on the west side of this between 1st April and 30th September. The town itself has a good shopping street with a supermrket, cafes and the usual beach shops. Toilets are available in the town and at the western end of the beach. There are no lifeguards at this beach.
