At the far eastern end of Bournemouth's wide sandy bay is Hengistbury Head. The shore is of sand and light shingle backed by sandy cliffs, and access is down a short track. P&D parking can be found at Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre (Grid Reference : SZ164911), about 400 yards behind the beach, which also has toilets, an ice cream kiosk and tourist information. Dogs are allowed at all times.
