Alum Chine and Branksome Chine are wide sandy beaches of fine sand backed by a promenade with plenty of beach huts. Lifeguards patrol both beaches from late May until early September. Alum Chine (above) is the more easterly of the two and the main access is along Alum Chine (road). Toilets, drinking water provision, ice cream kiosks, cycle parking and showers are available at regular intervals along the promenade. Swimming is generally safe at these beaches. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches between 1st May and 30th September except on the section of beach bounded by the beach offices at Alum Chine and Branksome Chine.
