Situated on the north side of Poole harbour, the shore at Hamworthy consists of a narrow band of coarse sand backed by a promenade, beach huts and playing fields. A small P&D car park is a short distance away (fills quickly during hot weather) and facilities include a drinking water tap, tennis courts and a large children's play area with paddling pool. Swimming is generally safe, and the water will usually be considerably warmer than the open sea. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from May to September inclusive.
