Lake Pier beach lies on the north-eastern side of Poole Harbour, and is mostly shingle with a little sand and backed by the nature reserve of Ham Common. There's a good-size P&D car park with toilets and cycle parking. Dogs are allowed at all times. It's generally safe for swimming, and the water will usually be considerably warmer than the open sea. Hamworthy railway station is just under a mile away.
