Lying at a height of 1224 feet in the Glyderau mountains, and just over ½ mile along a good footpath from Ogwen Cottage on the A5, Llyn Idwal was a popular lake for swimming and has a small 'beach' area along its northern shore. Unfortunately the Snowdonia National Park have decided they don't want people swimming here because of environmental issues. The path along the shore continues to the Devil's Kitchen and Glyder Fawr.
Just to the east and at a height of 1821 feet, Llyn Bochlwyd lies alongside a path up Glyder Fach. It's sometimes known as Lake Australia because of its shape.
