Ffynnon Lloer lies at a height of 2220 feet below the ridge of Pen yr Ole Wen in the Carneddau range. A steep path leaves the A5 on the north side at grid reference SH668604 just east of Llyn Ogwen and follows the Afon Lloer up to the lake. Free roadside parking can be found in both directions along the A5, but it can get busy in summer. Its name translates as "source of the moon".
