Man-o-war Cove

Man-o-war Cove lies on the eastern side of the isthmus to Durdle Door beach. The shore consists mostly of flint shingle with the Man-o-war rocks just a short swim away. Backing the shore are high cliffs of chalk with nodules of marcasite. It's very sheltered, a good sun-trap and generally safe for swimming. Parking can be found at the nearby camp site which also has toilets and drinking water is available. From the car park, beach access is down a steep track followed by a steep path with steps. Dogs are allowed at all times.

Comment : A sheltered bay providing a sheltered anchorage and beach for those who park and walk round the bay. As part of the Jurassic coast the geology and scenery is spectacular but some parts of the cliff at the back of the bay are loose and Winter storms bring down rockfalls. The parking is quite expensive but not if you are staying all day and being so famous you need to get here early. Or you can walk over from the Durdle Door side if you are staying there in the caravan park. No too steep a path in either direction. Chalk pebbles form the beach to a swimmable sea. There is an interesting local museum and plenty of alternatives for lunch, snacks or ice cream. There is a hotel locally for those who want to stay more than a day. For the geologists there is a walk over to Stair hole and plenty of strata and folding to work out.
