The picturesque vilage of Branscombe sits in a steep-sided valley about ½ mile from the sea. The beach consists of flint shingle and is backed by a pay-as-you-exit car park, and a beach shop / cafe. Dogs are allowed at all times and toilets are available. In 2007, the MSC Napoli was beached here following a storm, and its anchor now resides just above the beach.
The cliffs to the west are of red mudstone with some veins of gypsum, whilst to the east is Beer Head where the mudstone is overlaid with layers of sandstone and chalk.
