Lynmouth lies at the end of the steep wooded valley of the Lyn river on the northern side of Exmoor. There's a small harbour here with beaches to either side. These consist mostly of rocks and some gravelly sand. Blacklands Beach (above) is east of the river and is the larger and better of the two. The photo shows the view towards Sillery Sands. Facilities include shops, pubs, cafes, toiletsand a Tourist Information Centre. There is short stay roadside parking in addition to a P&D car park. The adjoining town of Lynton - situated just above Lynmouth - can be reached either by a cliff railway or by some very steep paths.
Note that most of Exmoor is over 1000 feet above sea level and there are some very steep gradients and hairpin bends on local roads.
