Morfa Bychan is a small beach situated between Ragwen and Gilman points, west of Pendine. The shore is mostly sand backed by a large pebble bank in a steep-sided limestone valley. It's generally safe for swimming at high tide, but swimmers should keep to the centre of the bay. There are some concrete relics of WW2 rehearsals here.
There are four ways to get here:
1. Walk from Pendine along the shore at low tide.
2. Take the coastal path from Pendine which involves a long steep ascent and descent.
3. From Pendine drive to the top of the hill and park near the junction with the Amroth road. Take the bridleway (track) on the west side of the road about 60 yards south of the bus shelter. This leads downhill through a wooded valley. Keep to the left of the stream all the way.
4. Take the byway which leaves the Amroth road about 150 yards west of the Green Bridge Inn. This is about a mile long and usually driveable, but very bumpy and often muddy. Some parking is available on rough ground just behind the beach. Dogs are allowed at all times.
Update on vehicular access [08/8/24] : Some years ago, Carmarthenshire Council temporarily closed this byway to traffic, but the order has long since expired and vehicular access is allowed. The "Access Only" signs are still in place, but no longer apply and can be ignored.
