Lying at a height of 1224 feet in the Glyderau mountains, and just over ½ mile along a good footpath from Ogwen Cottage on the A5, Llyn Idwal is a popular lake for swimming (although very cold), and has a small 'beach' area along its northern shore. The path along the shore continues to the Devil's Kitchen and Glyder Fawr.
Just to the east and at a height of 1821 feet, Llyn Bochlwyd lies alongside a path up Glyder Fach. It's sometimes known as Lake Australia because of its shape.
